Mi2 × agoda
Agoda has become synonymous with travel. Mere mention of the name conjures up visions of intrepid exploration – diverse colors, fascinating people and jaw-dropping sites from every corner of the world.
One of the world’s most popular travel fare aggregator websites and travel search engines, agoda has a network which includes more than 1.5 million hotels worldwide, and has offices in 28 countries.
Agoda’s logo is as vivid as its name, with its stylish use of bold colors – red, orange, green, purple and blue – set against a stylish, modern font. Mi2, which has a similarly memorable logo, has already designed three offices for this global hotel-booking brand – two in Shanghai and one in Beijing.
It has now added a fourth, located in Hong Yi International Plaza, in the heart of Shanghai’s bustling business district. Color, energy and the good life are the guiding principles behind Mi2’s design.
The 3,000-square-meter open-plan office space can accommodate up to 300 employees. Agoda’s signature five colors flow throughout the space, interspersed with circles, rectangles and other geometric shapes, creating a lively space full of rhythm.
The space is designed so that employees feel both at ease and productive. Infusing an innovative office environment with vivid bold colors, the overall effect is equal parts dynamic and tranquil.
Lobby entrance: the start of an incredible journey
Agoda’s office lobby lies at the end of a multi-colored rectangular corridor, akin to a time tunnel. The message to visitors and employees alike is clear: an incredible journey awaits.
Step through the tunnel and into the lobby to be met by a unique welcome: ring lamps in agoda’s five signature colors greet visitors in different international and regional languages. Benches, resembling splashes of ink, add to the sense of informality and freedom.
Office area: a Pop Art feast
Mi2 has spliced and arranged the circular elements in agoda’s logo on top of one another on the office shelving and floor. The dramatically modern result, resembling a Pop Art canvas, is a stunner.
The combination of highly saturated red, orange, green, and purple, brings to mind an overturned paint bucket. It’s a setting that inspires creativity.
Kitchen: somewhere over the rainbow
Artfully positioned bursts of color lend the kitchen and dining area a contemporary edge. Look up, and fun 3-D dots pop-out from the ceiling, echoing agoda’s logo design.
Bright red stools lend a touch of vibrancy to the monochrome clean lines of the tables and counter-tops.
Lounge: take time out
Sofas in the lounge area in agoda’s signature colors echo the murals on the walls and pendant lamps hanging from the ceiling. Soft lighting encourages employees to relax and recharge.
The clever use of a shelf to separate the lounge area from the office ensures that the two areas are at once connected and separate. By uniting work and rest areas, this semi-open style provides employees with the perfect mix of comfort and focus.
Woven hemp screens and natural materials create a relaxed yet productive mood.
Meeting room: evoking the travelling spirit
The lounge and meeting areas embody the difference between the countryside and city, evoking the sense of freedom we feel when travelling.
The conference room takes a minimalist approach: a sleekly luxurious blend of black, white, and grey creates calm and balance. Floor-to-ceiling windows lend the space a bright, airy feel, with the Shanghai skyline providing an inspiring backdrop for client meetings.
Mi2 has also created a number of smaller meeting spaces. The colorful furniture, again referencing agoda’s signature colors, lend the spaces a more informal, creative air. With Shanghai’s skyline silhouetted on the walls, you can almost hear the heartbeat of this dynamic city.
The overall effect of Mi2’s design is a never-ending source of inspiration and color, evoking agoda’s adventurous ethos. Step into the office and be transported on a thrilling, colorful adventure.
